AfriKin Art Fair 2024 – Threads of Life in Fragments of Time

Dear Artists,

We are thrilled to announce the call for submissions for the 2024 AfriKin Art Fair, themed “Threads of Life in Fragments of Time,” set to take place from December 1st to 8th during Miami Art Week at Maison AfriKin, Scott Galvin Community Center, North Miami, FL. This year, we aim to explore the intricate tapestry of existence that connects us all, transcending time and space through the universal language of the arts.

  • Is your artwork unique?
  • Is it a great fit for AfriKin Art Fair on the occasion of Art Basel and Miami Art Week 2024?
  • Is a cutting-edge contemporary African arts organization to partner with what you’re looking for?
  • Look no further; this is an invitation for artists to submit their work.

Apply by sending us an email to brooks@afrikin.org with “Artist Submission” in the subject line.

Theme and Vision:

Our lives are intertwined by invisible yet palpable threads, linking us from the earth to the cosmos, across continents and cultures. The AfriKin Art Fair 2024 seeks to weave these threads into a vivid display of African Contemporary Fine Art, highlighting our interconnectedness as “Familiar Strangers” through art. This year’s theme, “Threads of Life in Fragments of Time,” invites artists to delve into the essence of our collective journey, showcasing the dynamic and diverse expressions at the crossroads of life and the universe. This year we are so excited that we will be working with a co-curator from Africa as well.

Submission Guidelines:

We invite artists from Global Africa and its Diasporas to submit works that resonate with the theme. We are looking for submissions that not only reflect the artists’ unique perspectives but also embody the interconnectedness of art, life, and the cosmos. Submissions can span a wide range of mediums including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and digital art.

To submit, please provide the following:

  • Artist bio and statement reflecting on the theme.
  • High-resolution images of the work(s) you wish to submit.
  • A detailed description of each work, including medium, dimensions, framed, or unframed retail prices of any attached images, and year of creation.
  • Any relevant context or narrative behind the work(s).

Deadline for Submissions:

All submissions must be received by August 1, 2024. Selected artists will be notified by September 1, 2024, and will receive further information on exhibition logistics and promotion.

Why Participate?

As seen in The New York Times, the AfriKin Art Fair is more than an exhibition; it is a celebration of the rich tapestry of African artistry and its profound impact on the global stage. Participating artists will have the unique opportunity to showcase their work to an international audience, engage with fellow artists and curators, and contribute to the vibrant cultural exchange that defines Miami Art Week/Art Basel.

Submit Your Art:

Please submit your application and artwork images to brooks@afrikin.org. Should you have any questions or require further information, do not hesitate to contact us.

Submissions that do not include the above requirements will not be considered.

Once you have completed the submission process we will be in contact with you.

We eagerly await your submissions and look forward to the possibility of showcasing your extraordinary work at the 2024 AfriKin Art Fair: Threads of Life in Fragments of Time.
